Medal set belonging to Nursing Sister Lillian Ellen Galbraith, one of the first nurses to go overseas in 1914. This set includes, from left to right, the Royal Red Cross, Class 2 (ARRC); the 1914-1915 Star; the British War Medal 1914-1920; and the Victory Medal 1914-1919. The Royal Red Cross, Class 2 (ARRC), imprinted on the reverse with the words “faith, hope, and charity,” was available only to nurses. Since the medal was instituted on 10 November 1915, 446 have been issued. |
