Additional InformationA wedding gown made of ivory corded silk; Valenciennes and tambour work and machine-made lace edgings; silk net pleating. Cut on a princess lines with a horizontal pleat below the hips, suggesting a long peplumed jacket bodice. There are two long darts on each side of centre front closely buttoned opening; horizontal waist seam at sides; back cut in four pieces. Two-piece shaped sleeves are set in with cording; six button opening at wrists which are finished with lace and net frill; low stand-up collar completely concealed by lace and net frills. The skirt is trimmed with draping which is pleated into the centre front seam and extends around the right side into fringed ends at right of centre back; the two centre back panels of the dress are closely gathered into side seams; apron drapery across front is also pleated into the same seams and is shirred at left side. There is a pleated frill around the apron's lower edge, and a wide pleated frill around lower part of skirt that extends onto the long train, which is supported by tapes from centre back seam at waist. The skirt and train are lined with tarlatan; the lower part of the skirt is faced with poplin; edge is corded. The waistband is stamped: a Royal coat-of-arms is at left, and Prince of Wales feathers are at right. This gown belonged to Emma Sibella Young, born around 1860 in Montreal.
